My formal art education ended in the 90s when I decided that fine art wouldn't pay a mortgage and I sold my soul to the 9-5, but I never gave up the dream either. I returned to painting in my forties when I realised that it had left a hole in my life. My work has evolved from simple life painting and landscapes to abstracts based on nature and geological structures.
My preferred mediums are acrylics on canvas with metallic and iridescent highlights and metal leaf, creating texture with heavy gels and pastes. I love strong, bold colours and use of contrast. My brushwork is interspersed with use of palette knives and wedges. I love trying to capture movement and emotion in my work.
I take inspiration from nature and science, and from geological, elemental phenomena, both terrestrial and extra terrestrial. Seeking out ways to express aspects such as rock, bodies of water and even planets on the canvas motivates me to improve, and I love to experiment with 3D techniques.
